Currently I am an assistant professor of Computational Mathematics and Physics in the New Jersey Center for Science and Technology Education at Kean University in Union, NJ. Prior to coming to Kean, I performed post-doctoral work as a staff scientist with the Shodor Education Foundation, in Durham, NC.
My research interests lie in the area of educational technology and computational science. I currently am involved in the management of a digital library for computational science education learning objects, the Computational Science Education Reference Desk, a funded Pathway component of the National Science Digital Library. Many of the activities that exist on the internet for students to learn concepts in science and computing are presented with little information that can be used to judge the quality and scientific accuracy of the material. CSERD applies verification, validation, and accreditation processes--essentially the scientific method of computational science--to digital learning objects available on the internet. I am also interested in parallel computing education, and am involved in a number of educational materials development projects to increase the tools available to teach concepts in parallel and high performance computing.
Originally trained as a physicist with a specialization in computational astrophysics, I continue my studies in the modeling of the physical and optical properties of the interstellar medium. I completed my doctoral thesis in 1999 in the Department of Physics, Applied Physics, and Astronomy at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, in Troy, NY.
